The flat head plow bolt is used primarily in gang plows, road graters, scoop shovels, and other applications where a smooth surface is desired. A plow bolt has a countersunk square neck. Plain finish, or bare metal, may or may not have a coating of light oil to resist corrosion. Zinc plating, retards the corrosion rate in a normal atmosphere. Grade 5 is the most common grade used in manufacturing assembly.While Grade 8 has a greater tensile strength than Grade 5.
